Melody

Gallery project; Soft problems

Melody was a work for a gallery project during my master course at the Royal college of art. We who had various backgrounds participated in the project under the theme of Soft Problems. We supposed that Soft problems are difficult to define, whether related to ecology, movement, restriction, fragility, morality or value. Different approaches to material and progress are taken to reconsider the notion of our own soft problems.

I tried to present a new direction to recognise and understand problems through the conversion of thinking through my work. It created the artwork as simple as possible to emphasise the process of problem solving through various viewpoints for change of thought. It was intended that the shapes of large and small squares overlap and are displayed at various angles. To emphasise my idea, my work was expanded by installing intense light and using shadows as parts of the work to emphasise my concept, and my work was enriched with the shadows of the work. I focused on that audience seeing various images with the shadow of work depending on location.

“I am in squares. I want to go out of squares.

They not only protect me but also confine me at the same time.

They are visible and invisible.

Squares change shapes depending on viewpoints.

I think problems are the same as squares.

They are not problems if you have different ways of thinking.”
